Skrimsli!

My wife and I were fortunate enough to visit Iceland snd see northern lights and do all the bucket list stuff. Having said that, the skrimsli workshop might end up being the most memorable part of the entire trip. This would be my number one suggestion for anyone looking for a fun, creative, unique activity to do in Iceland. Can't thank her enough for her kindness and welcoming energy and allowing us to make memories and Skrimslis!

I only have one regret...

and that is that I didn't make one for myself! My parents, my husband, and our three kids all went today after a quit terrible flight from the US to Iceland. We were all particularly exhausted but I had booked ahead with Alma for these because I thought the kids would really love it. They were very tired and unenthusiastic when choosing all the parts for their custom wool monsters, but when we got back to the hotel, that's ALL they talked about! The blue lagoon? Not a peep. All the sight seeing? They don't remember half of it. But they have named their monsters, given them personalities, had them sing songs together, and are currently tucking them into bed to watch movies with them. I can't say enough good things about this visit! I'll have to come back to get one for myself next ❤️

Unique and fun - make your own Icelandic Monster!

We saw the Skrimslis (meaning "Monsters" in Icelandic we were told) at the airport and thought they were so fun and unique to Iceland. When we googled for more information, we saw that we could make our own in the Workshop. We had a lot of fun making our own monsters and a treasure from our trip to Iceland for me, my daughter and her best friend. I carried my monster home with its top peaking outside my backpack and got a lot of giggles from little ones at the airport.

If You Think You Won't Be Into It, You'll Love It Still

Alma is the sweetest woman! Her English is perfect! Her workshop is a little standalone room in the back of her house overlooking the water. It may seem like a child’s activity, but it’s just as much fun for adults! My parents (62) and I (~26) had so much fun. It was not a lot of waiting, just a lot of doing. There were so many options, but not enough to make it overwhelming! Alma will just talk to you as she zips together your creature. The view out the HUGE wall of windows in out onto the most beautiful shore. Additionally, I am asthmatic and Autistic. The workshop was great on my lungs and the perfect amount of sensory input!

A unique must-do experience in Iceland!

After seeing a video of someone else’s experience on TikTok, my husband and I decided we HAD to come here whilst on our honeymoon.

Alma was so wonderful and welcoming, very interactive and asking us questions…it made the experience very personable. The Skrimsli making was so much fun, my husband and I each made one for each other. Alma told us about her craft as we created our monsters, and how each Skrimsli is one of a kind, even noting how every single part used in the monster making will never be the same each time. You can know for sure that this business truly cares to make their craft one of a kind!

The whole experience was special and we loved the one-on-one interaction. This is such a special place and I hope it continues to have success as it grows and becomes more popular! Everyone should make a Skrimsli to add to their family, we already treasure ours and will always think of Alma and Iceland when we look at them.

We did the workshop on our last evening in iceland. Alma is just one of the nicest and purest people ever and the experience was so much fun. Plus you get a great souvenir to take home with you. The best time!

This was one of the highlights of our Iceland trip. My husband and I made our own adorable Icelandic wool monster and already have them proudly displayed in our home. So much better than a typical souvenir and even better that we created them. The setting of the workshop is lovely, Alma is lovely, and her pooch Molly is the cherry on top. Would give this 10 stars if I could!

The host was very welcoming, the workshop had a gorgeous view, and most importantly, the process of creating the skrimsli was so much fun. There’s endless unique combos you can create with different colors, textures, sizes, and the host helps to navigate you through the selections. I’m very happy with my monster and had to take home another little one for his friend!

Make your own "Skrimsli", a true Icelandic experience"

My 7-year old loved this workshop! The "Skrimsli '' is a toy monster made from Icelandic wool leftovers. You can buy your "Skrimsli" in selected stores across Iceland. I bought our first "Skrimsli" at "The Handknitting Association of Iceland", at Skólavörðustígur ("rainbow street" in Rekyjavík). We gifted it to our youngest son on a previous trip to Iceland and he just LOVED IT!  I was trying to find out more things about the Skrimslis and I realized that he could make his own, using his imagination! This seemed a great idea and we decided to book the workshop :)
Alma Björk, the artisan and mastermind behind the Skrimlies, was super nice and helped our son to choose the body parts: trunk, feet, hands, horns/ears, hair, eyes, and mouth and then sewed everything together for an outstanding finish! 
My son loved the whole experience and his new friend has been beside him since then! 
The workshop was held in a lovely little cottage by the sea shore in Álftanes, a charming village in the outskirts of Reykjavík. We used public transportation (Strætó buses) to get there and it was super easy, fast, and affordable. We used the Klapp App to plan and play for our trip. Bus #23  (Ásgarður - Álftanes) gets you almost there, from the bus stop at Höfðabraut it's just a short walk in a pretty neighborhood. 
As a side bonus, we really enjoyed visiting Álftanes, a quiet village located in a gorgeous peninsula. This is also where the official residence of the President of Iceland is - Bessastaðir - and there is also have a great swimming pool to spend time with the kids.
I definitely recommend this experience and we will come back to make more Skrimslis to add to our family!

Loved it!!!

Had a last rainy day in Reykjavik before flying back to italy and wanted to do something fun.
I saw rhe little wool.monsters all arpund Iceland during my roadtrip and wanted to have my customed one.
Alma the owner was super nice, the location is stunning and super cozy.
Highly recommended especially if you're with kids and want ti spend some creative time to do something unique.

My daughter and I have been fans of the Skrimslis since we saw them at Þingvellir a few years back, so much so that we have picked one up on every subsequent trip. So, when I saw that Alma was opening up a workshop I absolutely had to book and we were not disappointed! A Wonderful Workshop for the whole family

PERFECTION! Our family (2 adults, one 3 year old) had a wonderful and unique experience at Alma's workshop designing our own Skrimsli dolls. Alma is a warm, kind, and flexible host and the physical space of her workshop is serene and cozy (even overlooking a cute little beach!). My little one was able to fully participate in the project, from choosing the design and materials, to "unfolding"/unveiling the doll after she watched Alma sew it, to stuffing the doll full of wool. The materials are all high quality, like local wool. This experience was so fun that my husband, at first just a spectator, ultimately decided to join the fun and make his own Skrimsli! My daughter is immensely proud of her work and the Skrimslis have not left her side since the day we made them in the workshop. More broadly, this is a perfect cultural counterpoint to all of Iceland's fantastic nature experiences. It is also as a convenient "before airport" activity for those with later in the day flights home, in terms of location and time commitment. We departed with not only a high quality, unique souvenir but also wonderful family memories made at Alma's workshop. We cannot wait to return and create some more members of our Skrimsli family on our next visit to Iceland.

I joined the skrimsli workshop and enjoyed every moment. It was the most cosy place with a fantastic view. It was an unique experience with fantastic and kind peoples to help and give inpiration.
Eventhough the workshop is a new thing there is still a lot of pattern to choose between, and a lot of different colors and forms that makes your skrimsli unique.
While you take time choosing the pattern you get to know a lot more about the history behind the skrimslis, the company and how it all started.

We found out about the Skrimslis by chance in a local souvenir-store in Reykjavik. Later on we saw that the company offered workshops, in which you could apparently make your very own customized little monster.
Despite us being the first customers at the new company residence, the service provided was outstanding. It is a very unique experience, starting with the selection of the fabric and parts, ending with the little monster itself. All the while you get to learn more about the company, the process, the idea and get a glimpse into icelandic every-day-life.

Our Icelandic friend recommended the Skrimsli workshop to us because we happened to land in Iceland on our son’s 6th birthday, and we wanted to do something special and unique. Alma was awesome, and the workshop location was beautiful.

It’s so cool and special to see the little monsters in the shops around town and know that we got to create our very own custom one.

My wife found Alma’s creations and booked us a session. She was an awesome host and our Skrimslis are the perfect memento of our trip to Iceland. They’re sitting now on our bed. When we pass them we can’t help but smile.

We got to go to the workshop and give birth to our very own Skrimslis! The experience was great, and our host was so welcoming. Genuinely, could not have had a better time! October 2024This is an easy, fun activity and a unique souvenir option. It’s good for all ages. It’s also a great gift option for someone. We took our three kids (20 months, 4 and 8 yo) to Alma’s workshop to make skrimslis. The kids were a bit overwhelmed by all of the options and process at first, but once they got into it they had so much fun being creative and stuffing their little guys full of “dessert” (stuffing). We were able to make four in an hour, even with our slow start. Alma was incredibly kind to us and provided a fun and safe environment for all. We were at the end of a long international trip and had just come from an emergency hospitalization with one of our kids and needed to change our original booking. She was very accommodating and helpful. The kids had fun walking the shoreline and throwing rocks into the water. The workshop is in a beautiful setting. A little sign out front to help direct people to the back would be helpful, but I understand the workshop is in a private neighborhood and may not be feasible. The kids wished they could have stuffed the feet and/or arms, but that isn’t an option.

Such a lovely way to spend a few hours. We went for my 11-year-old crafting child, but the adults had fun too! Alma was so welcoming, and offered us drinks while we worked. She was happy to let us explore the workshop, and offered a guiding hand when we asked for it. Her workshop is a lovely, short drive from Reykjavik and the souvenir Skrimslis are a perfect reminder of our time in Iceland.

The Skrimslis is a truly wonderful and authentic experience in Iceland. All of the popular sites seem crowded and impersonal nowadays. I have lived here for 25 years after marrying an Icelander. We wanted to do something special in terms of souvenirs for family visiting from the U.S.. It ended up a true adventure for both my husband and myself. Alma has created a cozy, well organized family space with beautiful views. Her young son even helped out. It was so much fun to help and learn more about the culture I have lived in for so many years. The added bonus were the finished products. After years of buying the same impersonal souvenirs, I finally found a truly unique cultural gem.

Book this experience! Alma is a delight and makes all aspects of the experience easy-going, allowing for creativity and joy to take over. One of the absolute highlights of our trip to Iceland was spending time with Alma at her beachside workshop. The setting alone is stunning—right on the sand, with ocean views that made the whole experience feel peaceful and almost magical. Alma welcomed us with so much kindness and ease. I wish this had popped up during a Google search of things to do in Iceland earlier. Thankfully, we came across the AirBNB recommendation and were able to book a time before the end of our trip. These adorable creatures can be found in several shops across Iceland, but nothing compares to creating a unique version yourself!!! The location is stunning, the studio is warm, inviting and so precious, the process is fun and engaging, the concept is sheer genius and the whole experience was just so delightful. We very much enjoyed making our own Skrimslis! It was such a fun and unique experience and I will recommend it to everyone going to Iceland! I enjoyed that it was a personal experience and the host was very friendly!

We highly recommend! Our 7 and 5 year olds loved making their own wool monsters. It’s clear they will be treasured keepsakes. Skip the souvenir shops—Alma has you covered!

this was such a fun experience for my husband and I, but especially our 4 year old daughter. she loves crafts and stuffies...and this was the perfect combination. she got to highlight her unique style and go home with the best souvenir. Alma was a fantastic and thoughtful host. we will recommend this to anyone going to Iceland.

Highly recommended experience only minutes from Reykjavík. My husband and I had such a great time making our own Icelandic wool monsters. Alma was an excellent host and her workshop has everything needed to create any fuzzy creature you can imagine. The view from her property was gorgeous, and we enjoyed the time spent with Alma. Our Skrimslis are by far our favorite souvenirs from our trip to Iceland.

This was such a great way to start our trip! Our plane landed just a few hours before we arrived at Alma’s idyllic workshop. The view is incredible, and she’s a lovely host. I’m traveling with 3 friends, all of us big people, and we were perfectly comfortable in her small studio. Choosing the components of our little Skrimsli was fun, and the finished products are so charming. A great souvenir for kids or adults!

Alma was warm and welcoming, and the workshop was a delightful space right by the beach! We got to choose all the pieces to make our monsters and it was really fun and personal. Alma sewed them up for us and let us stuff them ourselves. It was a really fun activity, and we love our unique monsters!
